Concordia Honor Band

  • WHAT IS IT?
    • The Concordia College High School Honor Band is an enriching musical weekend held on the campus of Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota
    • Members make music in an artistically rigorous and nurturing environment
    • Members perform chamber repertoire coached by Concordia's distinguished wind and percussion faculty
    • Members rehearse and perform challenging repertoire under the direction of Dr. Peter Haberman, the director of bands at Concordia College, and an internationally renowned guest composer/conductor
  • WHEN IS IT?
    • The Concordia College High School Honor Band takes place on the first weekend of April from Friday through Sunday
    • Auditions for the Honor Band must be submitted in January.
  • WHO IS IT FOR?
    • The Concordia College High School Honor Band is for band students in grades 9 - 12 who pass the audition
  • WHAT DOES IT COST?
    • The cost for attending the Honor Band is $125 which covers the following:
      • ALL meals from dinner on Friday through lunch on Sunday
      • Hotel housing (faculty supervised)  
      • Shuttle bus between campus and the hotel  
      • Admission to ALL concert performances  
      • Recording of the Honor Band concert
  • WHAT IS THE SCHEDULE LIKE?
    • Friday  
      • Registration starts at 3:00 p.m.
      • Welcome meeting starts at 3:30 p.m.  
      • Masterclasses with applied studio faculty  
      • Dinner on Campus (provided)  
      • First Honor Band Rehearsal  
      • Reception
    • Saturday  
      • Breakfast (included with hotel)  
      • Honor band rehearsal  
      • Sectionals at various locations  
      • Lunch on campus (provided)

  • WHAT DO I GET FOR DOING THIS?
    • Those who SUBMIT and UPLOAD an audition in January will be awarded 200 career points, and be credited with passing up to TWO Stages (2 ADM Solos), and be credited with a 100% on the next TWO Performance Tests.  
    • Those who are ACCEPTED and ATTEND will receive an additional 500 career points and be credited with passing up to THREE Stages (3 ADM Solos) and will be credited with a 100% on the next THREE Performance Tests.
  • WHAT IS THE AUDITION LIKE?
    • Woodwinds and Brass  
      • Two contrasting musical excerpts (etudes or excerpts from a solo are appropriate):
        • One demonstrating your finest technical playing
        • one demonstrating your finest lyrical/expressive playing  
      • Each EXCERPT should be approximately 2 minutes in length  
      • Total recording length not to EXCEED 4 minutes
    • Percussion  
      • Three excerpts demonstrating your finest musicianship (etudes or excerpts from a solo are appropriate)
      • One from each: snare drum, mallet instrument and timpani
      • Each EXCERPT should be approximately 2 minutes in length  
      • Total recording length not to EXCEED 6 minutes
    • Applications and audition recordings must be received in January.  Notification of acceptance in February
